Let's Make Sonoma County History!
GMO crops and grasses are coming to our county.
Protect Our Farms, Pastures, and Vineyard Cover Crops from GMO Pollen Contamination.
The only way to prevent it is to pass this initiative.
- To preserve the right of Sonoma County residents/farmers to grow the plants and crops of their choice and to be free from transgenic contamination from genetically engineered organisms (Plant pollen and seed is carried by the wind, water, insects, and on the fur of animals.);
- To protect Sonoma County’s native plants, trees, and animals from transgenic contamination by genetically engineered organisms (Alfalfa, Kentucky blue grass, fescue turf grass and trees are being genetically engineered);
- To defend and promote the economic integrity of organic, and other markets that are harmed by transgenic contamination by genetically engineered organisms (if more than .9% of a non-gmo farmers crop is contaminated by GMO pollen transfer, it is illegal for the farmer to sell or save the seed, and according to U.S. Patent Law, it belongs to the corporation owning the patent on the seed);
- To protect Sonoma County from increased pesticide use resulting from genetically engineered plant propagation and cultivation (GE crops are responsible for increasing herbicide use by some 527 million pounds in the U.S. over the first 16 years of their commercial use.
